The Menlo School boys' tennis team kept its perfect season intact with a 7-0 win over NCS runner-up Orland in the second round of the CIF NorCal Championships on Friday at the Natomas Racquet Club in Sacramento. The Knights improved to 26-0, moving closer to becoming only the third Menlo team to finish the year unbeaten.

A week after winning its fourth consecutive Central Coast Section title, the Knights moved within two wins of clinching its fourth straight NorCal crown. No Menlo team has ever won four straight section and NorCal titles.

Juniors Andrew Ball, Daniel Morkovine and Eric Miller all had to stay back to take the SAT, a make-up exam scheduled after Palo Alto High had to cancel the original test May 5 when a school-wide alarm forced evacuation of classrooms shortly after students had begun their tests.

“We tried to re-schedule, but we couldn’t” Menlo coach Bill Shine said. “It was really hard, but we’re up here and we’re going to do the best we can.”

Menlo’s Richard Pham took a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jonathan Vazquez at No.1 singles. Senior Justin Chan rolled past Ray Hecox, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Victor Pham beat Guillermo Banuelos and sophomore David Ball downed Joseph Glover, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, juniors William Boyd and Michael Hoffman won 6-1, 6-0. The Knights' teams of freshman Vikram Chari and senior co-captain Zach Chase at No. 2 doubles and Ryan McLaughlin and Gunther Matta at No. 3 doubles each won, 6-0, 6-0.
