Michael Brandi singled home a run in the first and Collin Forgey singled home a run in the seventh as the Menlo College baseball team opened the NAIA West Regional with a 2-1 victory over British Columbia at Concordia College in Portland on Wednesday.

Micky Phelps walked and scored both runs and Coleman Cox had three hits, including a double, for the Oaks (26-24).

Joey Webb (6-1) threw a six-hitter, allowing a run in the eighth. He walked one and struck out three in his fourth complete game of the season.

Menlo plays College of Idaho at noon Thursday for a chance to reach Friday's championship contest.
