Varsity Boys Tennis
Palo Alto 4, Gunn 3
Date of competition: Wednesday, February 27, 2008
It took two days to complete, but the Palo Alto boys' tennis team was rewarded for its patience with a 4-3 victory over rival Gunn on Wednesday at the Titans' courts. The SCVAL De Anza Division season-opening match was halted by darkness on Tuesday with Gunn holding a 3-2 lead, with two matches remaining to be completed. They were resumed Wednesday. Paly's No. 3 doubles team of Alan Chen and Cory McCroskey finished off their 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) victory in quick fashion, leaving the match up to the No. 4 singles showdown between Gunn's Alex Klein and Paly's Dan Schwartz, who had split the first two sets. Schwartz, who played five match points on Tuesday, played three more Wednesday before finally pulling out a 6-4, 6-7 (9-11), 6-3 victory. Wednesday's final set took nearly an hour to complete as Paly took the first of two matches with Gunn this season.
