Menlo College swept a doubleheader from visiting Patten, 7-5 and 11-0, in Cascade Conference action Monday.
The Oaks (10-10, 13-19) scored seven runs in the first three innings of each game to support the pitching efforts of James Jensen, who threw a four-hit shutout in the nightcap, and Derek Martinez, who won the first game.
“We played some of our best baseball for the majority of the series and the results showed it,” Menlo coach Stefan McGovern said. “It was good that we didn’t let up, and that our best game came in the fourth game of the series, which is something to build off.”
Jensen, in particular, looks to build off his pitching gem.
“It felt very good, especially because I had been struggling,” Jensen said. “My defense played well behind me and when the offense was killing the ball the way they did, it makes me job so much easier.”
Coleman Cox started the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning, and Matt Ramon added an RBI single as the Oaks pounded out 15 hits overall, three from Will Pierce.
Martinez allowed four runs, three earned, in the first game. He was supported, in part, by a two-run double from James Threw, who also singled and scored a run. Michael Brandi added a home run.
