Brad Lawson had 14 kills and Brian Cook 13 to lead No. 1 Stanford to a 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18 men’s volleyball victory over No. 10 Pepperdine at Maples Pavilion on Friday night. Playing its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation home opener after 10 consecutive matches on the road, Stanford (12-2 overall, 9-1 MPSF) moved into a tie for first with idle UCLA.
The Cardinal had four players with double-figure kills, including Steven Irvin and Eric Mochalski with 10 apiece as the Cardinal earned its eighth consecutive victory, before a season-high home crowd of 1,186. Stanford can move into sole possession of the MPSF lead with a victory over No. 6 USC on Saturday at 7 p.m., also at Maples.
