Menlo School 4, Pinewood 0
Date of competition: Friday, February 3, 2012
The Menlo School boys’ soccer team took over second place in the West Bay Athletic League with a 4-0 victory over visiting Pinewood on Friday. With the win, the Knights keep alive a 10-game unbeaten streak, during which they have compiled a 7-1-3 record in league for 24 points. Sacred Heart Prep sits atop the league with a 9-0-2 mark (29 points) while King's Academy (7-2-1) dropped to third with 22 points following a 1-0 upset loss to Eastside Prep on Friday.
Menlo senior Lyall Cooper scored his first goal of the year at the eight-minute mark off a beautifully placed cross from junior Max Parker. Parker ran half the field, beating three defenders before finding Cooper inside the 6-yard box. Cooper's composure and first-time strike were perfect. In the 17th minute, senior Henry Bard towered over all to head home a Garrett Matsuda flighted ball that was double assisted by Parker.
Three minutes later it was Carson Witte's turn to strike goal off an assist from Bard. It was Cooper again in the 28th minute, with freshman Jackson Wagner providing the assist as Menlo improved to 10-1-5 overall against the last-place Panthers (0-9-2, 0-12-3).
