Menlo School remained solidly in third place in the West Bay Athletic League boys' soccer standings following a 4-2 victory over host Crystal Springs on Monday. The Knights (5-1-3, 8-1-5) have 18 points and trail first-place Sacred Heart Prep by five with five matches remaining.

More importantly, Menlo is in solid contention for the league's second automatic berth into the Central Coast Section playoffs. The Knights need to keep winning and beat King's Academy (6-1-1) on Feb. 10 to likely lock up the postseason berth. King's has 19 points after beating Priory on Monday, 5-2.

Menlo, which suffered a 2-2 tie with Crystal Springs in their first meeting, fell behind by 1-0 at halftime before overcoming the Gryphons in the second half. Sophomore John Strong scored on an unassisted goal to tie the match before Henry Bard gave Menlo the lead with a header off a cross from freshman Kyle Perez. Bard assisted on the third goal, with junior Max Parker finishing and Parker capped the scoring off a corner kick by Jackson Wagner.
