Varsity Boys Soccer
Harker 1, Menlo School 1
Date of competition: Wednesday, January 25, 2012
The Menlo School boys’ soccer team missed an opportunity to close the gap on first-place Sacred Heart Prep after settling for a 1-1 deadlock with host Harker on Wednesday in West Bay Athletic League action. The Knights broke a 0-0 deadlock with 2:30 to play, but Harker countered and that's how it ended.
The Knights (4-1-2, 7-1-4) remained in second place with 14 points on a day that saw SHP have to settle for a 1-1 tie with King's Academy. Had Menlo won, only three points would have separated the teams instead of five as SHP moved to 6-0-1 in league.
Menlo junior Max Parker collected a diagonal pass across the top of the box from senior Henry Bard and neatly shot across the keeper far post to put Menlo up 1-0 with only 2:30 to play. Harker rallied after Menlo failed to clear and tied the game with 20 seconds left in the match. Menlo will visit SHP on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
