The Priory girls' soccer team pulled into a tie for first place in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) with a 2-1 victory over Castilleja at Mayfield Soccer Complex on Tuesday. The Panthers improved to 5-0 (8-2-2) and have 15 points, tying Menlo School (5-1, 7-4-2), which won on Monday. Castilleja dropped to 0-4-2 (1-8-2) despite putting up a battle with the Panthers.
Priory scored two in the first half on a cross in the 34th minute and a free kick, both by senior Darrah Shields. In the second minute of the second half, Castilleja answered when Katherine Hobbs sent a ball to Caitlin Colvin at midfield. Colvin dribbled up the left side and scored a crossing shot across the goal mouth far post.
Castilleja just missed in the 62nd minute when Gabby Kaplan sent a ball from the endline to Emily Mosbacher, who crossed to Hobbs. Three minutes later, Mosbacher nearly scored on a Colvin corner. The Gators continued to pressure but were unable to convert.
