The Palo Alto girls' soccer team battled visiting Los Gatos to a scoreless first half before the unbeaten Wildcats broke through for a second-half goal and 1-0 victory in SCVAL De Anza Division action on Monday. The Vikings fell to 1-3-2 in league (3-5-4 overall).
Paly's Nina Kelty just missed over the crossbar with a shot at the 17-minute mark in the first half, while Los Gatos missed on a pair of corner kicks moments later. In the second half, Paly keeper Erin Chang made saves at the 50- and 53-minute marks but Los Gatos finally converted at the 60-minute mark on a free kick.
Paly's Sunny Lyu just missed left of the cage in the 80-minute mark as the Vikings' bid to hand the first-place Wildcats a defeat came up short.
