The Menlo School girls' soccer team took over first place in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) race with a 4-0 victory over visiting King's Academy on Monday. The Knights (5-1, 7-4-2) now have 15 points while second-place Priory (4-0) has 12.
Menlo jumped in front at the 30-minute mark of the first half when senior Sophie Sheeline headed in a cross from eight yards out off a cross from sophomore Jaye Boissiere. Menlo elevated its level of play in the second half connecting for three more goals. Boissiere found the net first on a great strike from 22 yard out off a pass from Sheeline. Then, Boissiere drove another 20-yard shot past the goalkeeper for Menlo's third goal. Sophomore Chandler Wickers scored the final goal with a well- placed 17-yard shot into the corner off a nice feed from sophomore Amanda McFarland.
Menlo's defense, led by senior Shannon Lacy, junior Hannah Rubin, sophomore Sienna Stritter, and freshmen Alexandra Walker was strong throughout the match while limiting King's Academy to seven shots on goal. Again, juniors Julia Dressel and Kelly McConnell combined on the shutout. Menlo outshot King's, 16-7.
