It was David versus Goliath in a West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) girls' soccer match on Thursday as winless Castilleja took on unbeaten Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton. When all was said and done, the upstart Gators upended the division standings with a 1-1 deadlock with the three-time defending champs.
Sacred Heart (3-0-1, 5-2-5) came into the match needing a victory to remain on course for a first-place showdown with Priory next week. Castilleja (0-3-1, 1-7-1) changed all that, at -least for the moment, with a solid effort that included a 1-0 halftime lead thanks to a goal by Emily Mosbacher on a low crossing shot off a free kick by Caitlin Colvin)in the 39th minute.
Bouyed by the early lead, the visitors held SHP in check until the 71st minute when freshman Alex Bourdillion scored off an assist from junior Kendall Jager to finish off a nice four-pass combination that Bourdillion finished with a shot to the upper left corner.
Sacred Heart next will host rival Menlo School on Saturday at 10 a.m.
