The Priory girls' soccer team kept pace with Sacred Heart Prep atop the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) standings with a 1-0 victory over visiting Menlo School on Thursday. Laura Wu provided the winning goal from close range midway through the first half following a corner kick by Sarah Zuckerman as the Panthers improved to 3-0 (6-2-2) while the Knights fell to 1-1 in league (3-4-2 overall).
In addition to staying tied for first place, the victory gave Priory's six seniors -- Eugenia Jernick, Kayla Noguchi, Alyson Perna, Darrah Shields, Molly Simpson and Kaitlyn Bonfiglio -- their first-ever victory over Menlo. The teams usually have battled to deadlocks over the past three seasons. Last year, for example, the teams played to a pair of ties -- 3-3 and 0-0. The year before, both matches resulted in 0-0 deadlocks.
