The Menlo School girls' soccer team opened its West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) season with a solid 4-0 victory over host Notre Dame-San Jose on Thursday at Watson Park. The Knights improved to 3-2-2 overall.
Menlo scored midway through the first half when sophomore Chandler Wickers scored from 15 yards out off a cross from junior Priya Medberry. In the second half, Menlo added three goals. The first came when sophomore Jaye Boissiere volleyed in a cross from sophomore Sienna Stritter. Next, junior Sophie Sheeline headed in a cross from Boissiere that sophomore Lindsay Karle flicked onto Sheeline. Finally, Medberry scored from 15 yards out off a cross from Sheeline.
Menlo outshot NDSJ, 18-6. Juniors Julia Dressel (two saves) and Kelly McConnell (four saves) combined on the shutout. Shannon Lacy and Alex Tom led the Menlo defense. The Knights' next game is Monday at Gunn at 4:30 p.m.
