Varsity Girls Tennis
Menlo School 13, Milpitas 2
Date of competition: Wednesday, November 9, 2011
The No. 4-seeded Menlo School girls' tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Central Coast Section team tournament with a 13-2 victory over visiting Milpitas on Wednesday in Atherton. The Knights (19-4) will host No. 5 Burlingame (17-3) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The Panthers tied Carmel, 9-9, but won on total points, 91-78.
Playing a new round-robin format of three singles and three doubles, Menlo won easily despite not finishing all the matches due to darkness. The Knights' three singles players -- Giannina Ong, Kristy Jorgensen and Liz Yao -- were limited to only two sets instead of three. Ong had one loss while a Menlo doubles team dropped the other.
