The Palo Alto boys' soccer team kept its hopes alive for a Central Coast Section playoff berth by stopping host Santa Clara, 1-0, on Monday in a makeup match. The Vikings improved to 6-4-1 in league for 19 points (11-4-5 overall). Los Gatos (7-1-3) captured the SCVAL De Anza Division title despite dropping a 2-1 decision to visiting Gunn on Monday. Paly has one match left (Wednesday at Saratoga) and can finish with a maximum of 22 points. The Vikings hold a two-point lead over third-place Milpitas and a three-point lead over fourth-place Santa Clara. The worst Paly can finish is third for third, should the Vikings lose to Saratoga while Milpitas and Santa Clara win their finales. Paly junior Adam Zernik booted an indirect kick at the 30-minute mark, with fellow junior Kevin Ashworth heading in the winning goal.
