Leah Gaeta scored two goals and Erika Hoglund provided the winner (assist by Alex Nguyen) as the Palo Alto girls' soccer team kept its hopes alive for an automatic Central Coast Section playoff berth with a 3-2 SCVAL De Anza Division win at Homestead on Monday. The Vikings improved to 5-4-1 in league (13-4-1 overall) and knocked the Mustangs (3-6-2) further down in the standings. Paly played without star midfielder Teresa Noyola, who was ill, and without starters Maeve Stewart and Kelly Jenks, who are in Florida at the Super Youth League Olympic Development Program camp in their age group. On Paly's first goal, Sydney Lundgren's shot hit the crossbar and Gaeta was there for the followup shot and goal. The second goal was a result of a Sammi Bengston pass to Gaeta, who scored. In the second half, Nguyen crossed the ball from the left side and Hoglund, who finished off the play.
