Palo Alto opened defense of its CIF Division I state championship with a 28-18 nonleague football victory over visiting San Benito on Friday night. It was the Vikings' 15 straight victory, a school record, dating to last season when Paly went 14-0.

Senior running back B.J. Boyd scored two first-half touchdowns, a 95-yard kickoff return to open the game and the other on a 62-yard run, to help stake Paly (1-0) to a 28-6 lead at intermission. Junior Jayshawn Gates-Mouton added two more touchdown, on receptions, in the first half to give the Vikings plenty of breathing room.
