The Palo Alto girls' soccer team exploded for a 6-0 win over Gunn on Friday in a SCVAL De Anza Division match, keeping its slim hopes alive for an automatic berth into the Central Coast Section playoffs. The Vikings (4-4-1, 12-4-1) got three goals and two assists from senior Teresa Noyola and one goal each from Sophie Cain, Alex Nguyen and Kelly Jenks in toppling Gunn (2-9, 4-14-1), which hononred its seniors before their final home match -- played at the Mayfield Soccer Complex. Jenks, Nguyen and Cain also had assists. Palo Alto has three league matches remaining next week with a good chance of overtaking Los Gatos and Homestead and earn no worse than third place for the final automatic CCS berth.
