Date of competition: Sunday, July 24, 2011
The Palo Alto Oaks came from behind to beat the Norcal Longhorns, 7-6, in 11 innings on Sunday at San Jose Academy to win the AABC Northern California State Championship for the second straight year. The Oaks (17-1), who droppped their opener to the Longhorns on Friday, bounced back with a 7-4 win over the Walnut Creek Crawdads on Friday afternoon before beating Fontanetti's 5-3 on Saturday to reach Sunday's finale.
The Oaks had to rally from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the ninth with one out just to force extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th and with the bases loaded, Palo Alto's Brian Beres stroked a 3-2 pitch for a sharp single between the shortstop and third baseman to knock in the winning run.
