The Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-star team blasted Washington Manor of San Leandro, 21 to 11, in extra innings in the first round of the NorCal State Tournament in Elk Grove on Saturday. James Foug's four hits and Alec Furrier's five RBI led an 18-hit attack that saw Palo Alto break open a 10-10 tie with 11 runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Palo Alto trailed by 3-0 after three innings and 6-2 after four before rallying to go ahead 8-6 in the top of the fifth. Washington Manor tie the game at 10 in the bottom of the sixth off of relief pitcher Erik Amundson, who would go on to pick up the win.
Furrier had two hits as did Jacob Hoffman, Christian Kurtela, Michael Strong and Daniel Tachna-Fram. Foug and Kurtela had doubles, while Furrier, Hoffman, Strong and Tachna-Fram had triples. Foug and Tachna-Fram also had three RBI each.
Palo Alto next plays Tri-Valley in a winners'- bracket game on Sunday at 7 p.m.
