The U.S. Women's National Team advanced to its first World Cup soccer final since 1999 with a 3-1 victory over France in a semifinal match Wednesday in Germany. The U.S. will face the winner of Japan and Sweden in the finals.

Cal grad Alex Morgan made a long run and chipped a shot over the onrushing goalie to give the USA a 3-1 lead in the 82nd minute. The U.S. had taken a 2-1 lead just three minutes earlier when Abby Wambach scored on a header off a corner kick from Lauren Cheney in the 79th minute.

France tied the match in the second half after Cheney scored in the ninth minute of the match to give the USA a 1-0 lead.
