Palo Alto 14s 11, Mountain View 10
Date of competition: Thursday, July 7, 2011
The Palo Alto Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-stars nearly let a nine-run lead disappear while holding on for an 11-10 victory over Mountain View in the District 6 Tournament on Thursday at Baylands Athletic Center. Palo Alto now advances to Saturday's championship game at 4 p.m., and will face either Mountain View or Bel-Mateo. A challenge game, if necessary, will follow at 7 p.m.
Palo Alto held a 10-1 lead after four innings until starting pitcher Leo McCabe was removed with a seemingly safe advantage. Mountain View scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game before Palo Alto won it with a bases-loaded passed ball in the bottom of the inning.
Brad Degnan had a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning for Palo Alto. Kenta Yanagisawa had a two-run double and Andrew Robinson produced three singles to help lead the winners.
