The Palo Alto boys' soccer team, which grabbed first place in the SCVAL De Anza Division last week, lost it Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to Los Gatos at the Mayfield Soccer Complex. The Vikings (5-3-1, 10-3-5) let a golden opportunity slip away after sophomore Jenner Fox scored in the first seven minutes of the match. Before the Vikings could finish celebrating, the Wildcats (5-0-3) not only had tied it but gone ahead with a remarkable three goals in just 11 minutes. Palo Alto charged back in the second half and made it 3-2 on a goal by junior Greg Stewart. The Vikings had three good opportunities to tie or go ahead, but Fox misfired twice from the top of the penalty box and junior Adam Zernik missed on a one-on-one. "It's disappointing," said Paly coach Don Briggs. "If we had won that game, it would have put us in the driver's seat." Instead, Palo Alto trails Los Gatos by two points and is tied with Milpitas(5-3-1) for second place. Paly now must travel to face third-place Santa Clara on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
