Varsity Boys Soccer
King's Academy 2, Priory 1
Date of competition: Wednesday, February 9, 2011
The Priory boys' soccer team lost a chance to delay Sacred Heart Prep's possible title celebration by dropping a 2-1 West Bay Athletic League decision to visiting King's Academy on Wednesday in Portola Valley. The Panthers (8-3, 9-5-4) fell into a second-place tie with King's Academy (7-1-3), with both teams having 24 points. SHP leads with 31 and needs only to win on Friday to claim the WBAL crown.
Priory coach Paul Moran said his team came out flat in the first half and fell behind 1-0 in the first 10 minutes. Evan Filipczyk provided the assist on Austin Mirabella's tying goal in the second half, but King's picked up their tempo and scored the winning goal midway through the second half. Priory now is playing for second place and a higher CCS seed. The Panthers could get some help from SHP, which visits King's next Tuesday.
