Varsity Girls Soccer
Mountain View 2, Palo Alto 0
Date of competition: Monday, February 7, 2011
It was scheduled as a home match, but there was no home field advantage for the Palo Alto girls' soccer team as it dropped a 2-0 decision to Mountain View in SCVAL De Anza Division action on the Spartans' field on Monday. The match originally was rescheduled for Paly after it first was cancelled when the host Vikings failed to have referees show up. The Spartans asked for the match to be replayed on their field so not to have to make a second trip to Palo Alto.
The way the season has been going for both teams, it probably didn't matter where the match was played. Mountain View (7-1-2, 13-2-3) is closing in on first place while Palo Alto (2-5-2, 5-9-2) is close to missing out on the postseason for the first time since 2000 when the Vikings went 12-8-2 and missed the CCS playoffs.
On Monday, Paly gave up back-to-back goals within a three-minute span in the first half. The Vikings battled back after intermission and actually out-shot the Spartans, but couldn't find the net.
