The West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) race got a lot tighter and more interesting following Sacred Heart Prep’s 1-1 deadlock against host Menlo School on Thursday. The first-place Gators (4-0-1, 8-4-3) lead the Knights (3-0-2, 4-3-6) by two points and third-place Priory by just three points heading into the second half of the season.

Menlo scored just two minutes into the match when Sophie Sheeline connected from 10 yards away on the rebound of a shot from Kelly Cavan. Sacred Heart Prep equalized late in the first half when Kendall Jager scored from 18 yards out on a pass from Abby Dahlkamper. The second half was an exciting back-and-forth game with both teams creating good scoring opportunities.

Menlo goalkeeper Julia Dressel was outstanding while making 12 saves against the favored Gators. She was supported by strong defensive play from Sophia King, Shannon Lacy, and Elyse Adler.
