Toki Morimoto scored 17 points in helping Mountain View beat host Gunn 51-47 in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division girls basketball game Friday night.

Mikayla Kim added 13 points for the Spartans (7-3, 2-0), who host Monta Vista at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Mountain View opened its season with losses to Los Gatos and Hillsdale, both of which play in the top division of their respective leagues and both are currently 10-1 on the season.

“We had some team discussions and made some adjustments,” Mountain View co-captain Sydney Shimabukuro said. “Our nerves are a lot calmer now and we’re coming together. We still need to work on game execution and making smart plays.”

Mountain View took a 30-29 lead into halftime and then followed that with a strong third quarter, with Kim scoring six of her points.

Gunn kept attacking and could never get closer than three points in the second half. Vallory Kuelker led the Titans with 21 points and seven rebounds. She has scored 96 points in her past four games combined.

Mollie Kuelker added 16 points for Gunn (6-4, 1-1), which is scheduled to host Fremont at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

In another SCVAL game, Los Altos beat host Saratoga 52-36 for its first De Anza Division victory.

Macy Watson scored six of her team-high 15 points during a decisive 8-0 run in the fourth quarter.

Abby Lu scored midway through the third quarter to break a 25-all tie and the Eagles (9-3, 1-2) never looked back.

Saratoga closed to within 34-31 in the fourth quarter before Watson helped up that lead to 42-31.

Los Altos hosts Hillsdale in a non-league contest Tuesday at 7 p.m.

In the West Bay Athletic League, Priory stopped host The King’s Academy 65-45 as junior Shomira Bidaye recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Senior Valentina Saric added 19 points and six rebounds for Priory (5-3, 1-0), which is scheduled to host Pinewood at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys basketball

Allen Rankin scored 16 points in Gunn’s 44-41 setback to visiting Los Gatos in a SCVAL El Camino Division contest.

The game was tied at 29-all entering the fourth quarter. Rankin hit a basket to put the Titans (9-4,0-2) ahead. Los Gatos responded with a 13-4 run.

Colin Lee converted a three-point play to bring Gunn within 42-38. The Titans had two shots blocked in the final 12 seconds before Rankin hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left.

The Titans are scheduled to host Fremont (10-3, 1-0) at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Boys soccer

Tyler Leier recorded four saves and earned his second shutout of the season as host Woodside bested nearby rival Sequoia 3-0 in a non-league match Friday.

Adrian Ruiz, Benny Bogyo and Andrew Ehrig scored for the Wildcats (6-2), who won their third straight.

Diego Ruiz, Jonathan Fuentes Lopez and Adam Yusuf recorded assists.

Woodside opens league play Wednesday with a home game against San Mateo at 4:30 p.m.

In another non-league match, Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo-Atherton played to a 1-1 tie.

Beau Dunlevie, with an assist from Billy Thompson, gave SHP (3-3-1) the first half lead.

Noah de Haaff netted the equalizer for the Bears (1-3-2).

In a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League contest, a defensive miscue led to a goal and cost Gunn a 1-0 loss to visiting Santa Clara.

Both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the contest and neither could take advantage.

Gunn (4-4-1, 0-1-1) travels to play Los Altos at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Mountain View topped host Los Gatos 3-1 on Friday. The Spartans (6-1, 1-0) are scheduled to play at Los Altos on Monday afternoon.

Girls soccer

Mountain View scored early and often in beating visiting Los Gatos 5-0 in a SCVAL De Anza match on Friday.

Sophia Sasaki recorded her second straight shutout without needing to make a save and Mountain View recorded its sixth shutout in the past seven matches.

Freshman Laila Edris scored twice for the Spartans (9-0-1, 3-0) and has eight goals in her past four games.

Kate Stone, Abby Westcott and Isabella Walker also scored for Mountain View, which travels to Homestead for a 5 p.m. match Wednesday.

Walker assisted on a pair of goals and Westcott, Mackenzie Fry and Edris each had an assist.

Los Altos and Hillsdale played to a 2-2 tie in a non-league match Friday. The Eagles (4-2-2) travel to play Gunn at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Gunn (5-3-3, 0-1-1) and host Santa Clara played to a scoreless tie.
