Gunn enjoys a pair of NorCal water polo titles

Gunn enjoyed a double championship day with both the boys and girls winning the NorCal Division III title. The boys beat Santa Clara Valley Athletic League rival Harker 13-7 at home and the girls traveled to Santa Cruz, beating the Cardinals, 10-6, on Saturday.

The boys fell behind 3-1 in the first period and then grabbed the lead and maintained it the rest of the way as Jordan Affeld scored two key goals in the fourth period. He finished with four goals.

Wolfgang Edholm, Blake Snyder and Rowan Brougham each added two goals for the Titans (21-9), who ended the season with a six-game winning streak.

Gunn finished undefeated during the regular SCVAL season and then fell to Palo Alto in the league tournament. The Titans got some revenge by beating Palo Alto for the Central Coast Section Division I championship.

Harker (26-7) lost to Palo Alto in the SCVAL tournament championship and then went on to beat Mitty for the CCS Division II title.

Kenza Ashworth had another outstanding game, scoring five goals to help the Titans (22-10) earn the title.

Santa Cruz (16-6) won the CCS Division II title and was awarded the top seed for the NorCal tournament. Gunn, which finished third behind Los Gatos and Castilleja, both teams were in the CCS Open Division, in the SCVAL, was seeded second.

Siham Arsalane added four goals and two assists for Gunn, which also finished on a six-game winning streak.

Sawyer McKenna also scored a goal and added three assists, two steals and blocked a shot. Goalie Jayden Kratt recorded eight saves, with a .571 save percentage, and had two steals.

Nina Albers had an assist and made three steals. Pooja Bucklin and Mia Knezevic each added an assist and two steals.
