Palo Alto pair wins CCS girls tennis doubles title

M-A's Ava Martin reaches championship match in singles

They’re not related but Palo Alto’s Erin Li and Iris Li played like they’ve known each other for a long time.

They showed that again in the championship match of the Central Coast Section doubles tournament Wednesday, beating Menlo’s Tricia Zhang and Brynn Brady 6-2, 6-4 to win the title at Bay Club Courtside.

The top-seeded Li and Li downed the St. Francis No. 4 duo of Jolie Wang and Lauren Smith 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals to advance.

The third-seeded Zhang and Brady beat the second-seeded Harker duo of Sophie Hernandez and Olivio Guo 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the semifinal.

Menlo-Atherton’s Ava Martin defeated Gunn’s Aoi Kunimoto 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals and then fell to top-seeded Gayathri Krishan of Cupertino, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, in the championships match of the singles tournament.
