Water polo, volleyball tournaments on the schedule this weekend

A full slate of tournaments in various sports are on tap for the weekend, highlighted by the 23rd annual Scott Roche Tournament, a boys water polo event co-hosted by Menlo School and Menlo-Atherton and including Los Altos.

Saint Francis hosts the Saint Francis Invitational, a girls water polo event. In addition to the Lancers, Sacred Heart Prep, Palo Alto and Los Altos will also participate.

Menlo School and Castilleja are entered in the Acalanes girls water polo tournament which begins Friday at noon. Menlo's first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. against Cardondelet. Castilleja plays San Ramon Valley at the same time at Campolindo High. Both teams play a second match

The Knights are also playing in the Dave Mohs Memorial Tournament, a 20-team girls volleyball event hosted by Edison High in Huntington Beach. Menlo opens with Temecula Valley at 2 p.m. Friday. The Knights will also play Tesoro and Santa Margarita in pool play.

At the Scott Roche Invitational, the host Knights open against Grossmont at noon Friday. They play again at either 4 or 5 p.m. against Buchanan or Vista.

At Menlo-Atherton, the Bears meet Clovis West at 1 p.m., followed by Los Altos and Granite Bay at 2:50 p.m.

M-A faces St. Ignatius or Rio Americano later in the day. Los Altos will face either Davis or Valley Christian.

The tournament continues Saturday with the championship round at Menlo School beginning at 8:45 a.m. The championship is slated for 4:45 p.m. M-A hosts the consolation round beginning at 8 a.m.

The St. Francis Invitational was revised into a three-bracket round-robin format after one team had to withdraw.

On Friday, the Lancers play St. Francis Sacramento at 1:30 p.m. and Clovis West at 5:40 p.m. Palo Alto plays St. Francis Sacramento at 4 p.m. and Soquel at 6:30 p.m. Los Altos meets Robert Louis Stevenson at 4:50 p.m. and Mitty at 7:20 p.m.

At SHP on Friday, the Gators open with Clovis at 1:30 p.m. and then play Arroyo Grande at 4:30 p.m.

Saint Francis hosts Robert Louis Stevenson at 11:40 a.m. and Soquel at 3:50 p.m. Saturday. Los Altos plays Homestead at 12:30 p.m. and Valley Christian at 3 p.m.

At SHP on Saturday, the Gators meet St. Ignatius at 11:40 a.m. and Leland at 2:40 p.m. Palo Alto plays Valley Christian at 10:50 a.m. and Mitty at 1:50 p.m.
