ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS OF THE
23rd ANNUAL PALO ALTO WEEKLY 2008

Adult Winners

From an elegant Hamptons hotel to the drab 1950s Soviet Union, from a girl's bedroom to a bloody Iraq battlefield, the winning entries in the Palo Alto Weekly Twenty-Third Annual Short Story Contest take us around the world.

Grabbing moments of spare time to craft and hone their imagined tales into words, this year's winners drew their inspirations from overheard conversations, current events, friends, kids, sports, books and the ordinary routines of daily life.

The Palo Alto Weekly thanks each of the 160 writers who entered this year's contest as well as writers Ann Hillesland and Judy Clement Wall, who selected the top ten entries in each category to send on to the judges. Thanks also to our judges, and to contest co-sponsors Bell's Books of Palo Alto, Kepler's of Menlo Park and Linden Tree of Los Altos.
