The City Council has no meetings scheduled this week.

BOARD OF EDUCATION ... The board will discuss a request for authorization to begin "preliminary work on exploration of a fourth middle-school site." The board also will hear a report on summer construction and modernization of school facilities, discuss annual "focus goals" for the school district and discuss a resolution in support of November California Propositions 30 and 38, which are tax increases proposed by Gov. Jerry Brown and Los Angeles lawyer Molly Munger, respectively. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, in the board room of school district headquarters (25 Churchill Ave.).

LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMISSION ... The commission plans to discuss the economic impact of eBooks and library statistics for fiscal year 2012 and a possible name change for Main Library. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Downtown Library (270 Forest Ave.).
