EVERY DROP COUNTS ... Master Gardeners will offer a free workshop to "Make Every Drop Count: Using Water Wisely in the Garden" from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at the Palo Alto Demonstration Garden, 851 Center Drive, Palo Alto. The class will cover installing and maintaining drip-emitter systems with hose-bib hook ups, with hands-on demonstrations and a tour of the edible and waterwise gardens. USING NATIVE PLANTS ... Delmar McComb, a longtime horticulturist and designer of public and private gardens, will teach a class on "Using Native Plants" from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 3, at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. McComb will include information on native plants that thrive in the Bay Area, as well as Native American views and approach, including how they use plants as sources of food, dyes, medicines and fiber. SUSTAINABLE GARDENING ... Master Gardener Candace Simpson will teach a class on "Sustainable Home Vegetable Gardening" from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 6 to April 17, in Room 1707, Palo Alto High School, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. SENIORS GET HELP ... Senior homeowners or renters who need help with household tasks can request free assistance from the Realtor Service Volunteer Program (RSVP) by March 15. Volunteer Realtors and other industry-related professionals will spend the week of May 7-11 helping with such tasks as replacing smoke-detector batteries, flipping mattresses or washing windows. SUSTAINABILITY LECTURE ... Ray Kappe, architect, urban planner and educator, will complete the 2011-12 Los Altos Neutra House Architecture Speaker Series on Thursday, March 8; the lecture will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos, followed by a reception from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Los Altos Neutra House, 181 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
