107th BIRTHDAY ... Palo Alto resident Elise Martin marked her 107th birthday with a drive-by celebration in the front yard of her Palo Alto home on Saturday, Feb. 5. As Martin watched from her driveway, friends and well-wishers paraded by with music, flowers and balloons. Martin's family members distributed chocolates and a magnet photo of Martin with the message "Thank you for coming to my 107th birthday parade!" Martin is living through her second pandemic. As a 3-year-old, she recovered from the 1918 Spanish Influenza that took the lives of her father and her baby sister. The retired shop owner, teacher and civic activist from Columbia, South Carolina, moved to Palo Alto eight years ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta Martin Green and Bill Green.
