Settlements: In closed session, the board unanimously approved settlement agreements with two employees. The board also unanimously approved a $250,000 settlement relating to a "special education matter," Vice President Jennifer DiBrienza announced when the board reconvened into open session. Council Finance Committee (Jan. 18)
Business tax: The council discussed the results of a new survey pertaining to the business license tax, agreed to exempt hotels and grocery stores from the tax and supported a "tiered" structure in which a business pays a $50 for the first 5,000 square feet of space and a tax based on square feet for additional space.
Planning and Transportation Commission (Jan. 19)
Castilleja: The commission continued to review Castilleja School's redevelopment proposal. The commission took numerous straw poll votes to request further information about the plan and will continue the review at a future meeting. Action: None

2850 West Bayshore Road: The board reviewed a proposed development with 48 townhomes and continued the hearing to a future date. Action: None
