WISTERIA PRUNING ... Alex Fernandez, Filoli garden manager, will teach a hands-on workshop, "Wisteria Pruning II," from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. The workshop begins with a demonstration and is followed by guided, hands-on practice. Bring clean, sharp shears. Fee is $40 for nonmembers, $35 for members. CULINARY CLASSES ... with Chef Steve Cortez are being offered through the City of Palo Alto this summer, on Mondays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Classes (at $60 each for residents, $69 for nonresidents plus a $10 materials fee payable on day of class) include: July 2 — BBQ Sauces and Rubs; July 9 — Tamale Workshop; July 16 — Seafood Everything; July 23 — A Cuban Festival; July 30 — Gourmet Sandwiches; Aug. 6 — Aug. 13 — Creative Chicken Dishes; Aug. 20 — A Day in Thailand; and Aug. 27 — Lunch Box Favorites. FREE FABRIC ... The next FabMo free fabric distribution event is Thursday, July 5, 4:30 to 8 p.m.; Friday, July 6, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 7, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are required, to help manage the crowds (Email gather.fabrix@me.com with preferred date and time), but some drop-in hours are included. The distribution, with a requested donation, takes place at 2423 Old Middlefield Way, Mountain View. Volunteer greeters and sorters are also needed. Information: www.fabmo.org

BBQ BOOT CAMP ... Charcuterie chef Quentin Levy will teach how to make briquettes, formulate rubs, marinades and sauces, and grill tasty treats from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Hidden Villa, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills. WEED WARRIORS ... Volunteers are needed to restore habitat at the Pearson-Arastradero Preserve every Wednesday from 2 p.m. until sunset. Meet at the Gateway Facility, down the trail from the Pearson-Arastradero Preserve parking lot at 1530 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto, just north of Page Mill Road.
