HERBS AND GREENS ... Jody Main, who specializes in designing vegetable, herb and berry gardens, will teach an "Herbs and Greens Workshop" on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. The class includes tasting samples, plant lists and recipes as well as plants and herbs to take home. The cost is $38, plus a $7 supplies fee. A COLORFUL FALL ... Mimi Clarke will teach an outdoor class on "Autumn Color Maintenance" on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. Clarke will cover good gardening practices, including grooming, selecting and planting bulbs and annuals, pruning, mulching and composting. The cost is $45 for nonmembers, $35 for members. LET THEM EAT GARBAGE ... A water-efficient landscape workshop — "Let Worms Eat Your Garbage" — will be offered Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon, by the City of Palo Alto Utilities and the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency. The free workshop emphasizes soil health and water conservation while reducing waste and preventing pollution.
