FROM GRAY TO GREEN ... Laura Allen, founder of Greywater Action, will offer a free City of Palo Alto-sponsored workshop "From Graywater to Green Gardens" on Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to noon, at Cubberley Community Center, Room H-6, 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. The workshop deals with reusing water from sinks, showers and washing machines to irrigate plants. Due to limited space registration is required. TREE WALK ... Arborist Herb Fong will lead a free tree walk through the College Terrace neighborhood on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to noon. SOLAR COOKING ... Don Larson, assistant manager at Common Ground, will teach a class on "Solar Cooking" on Saturday, June 11, from noon to 2 p.m. at Common Ground, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Larson, who uses a solar water distiller and solar drier and generates electricity using a 2KW solar photovoltaic array, will share his expertise and offer a hands-on demonstration of using the "Global Sun Oven" and "Solar Cookit." Palo Alto Adult School is offering a number of classes this summer to help people improve their homes, including "How to Manage Your Kitchen or Bath Remodel" (Mondays, June 13-July 18, 6:30-9 p.m., Palo Alto High School Room 1702, $75); "Floral Design with Ikebana" (Tuesdays, June 14-July 19, 1-4 p.m., Greendell P2, $45); "Garden Design for Homeowners" (Tuesdays, June 14-July 19, 6-8 p.m., Room 1702, $72); "Gardening in Summer" (Wednesdays, June 15-July 20, 10 a.m.-noon, Cubberley A-2, $35); "Woodworking: Beginning" (Tuesdays, June 14-July 19) and "Woodworking: Mixed Levels" (Thursdays, June 16-July 21, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Palo Alto High School Woodshop, $108 each plus materials fee); and "Upholstery: Basic Techniques" (Tuesdays, June 14-July 19, or Thursdays, June 16-July 21, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Upholstery Room 904, $125).

DEEP-FRIED TWINKIES? ... Funnel cake and barbecue are featured foods at the San Mateo County Fair, June 11-19 at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds, 2495 S. Delaware St., San Mateo. Other draw cards: a livestock barn with goats, hogs, rabbits and chickens; grounds acts including Ham Bone Express racing pigs and Walking Tree Man; carnival rides; plus Creative Home Arts, Culinary Arts and Floral Arts.
