DUMP HAZARDOUS WASTE ... The City of Palo Alto sponsors Hazardous Waste Disposal days on the first Saturday of the month (March 5), from 9 a.m. to noon, at 2501 Embarcadero Way, Palo Alto. Residents may drop off unused medicines, pesticides, household cleaners, pool chemicals, paint or other hazardous wastes, rather than dumping them down sinks or toilets. WATER-EFFICIENT LANDSCAPING ... The City of Menlo Park and the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) are offering a free class, "Creating a Habitat Garden with California Natives," on Saturday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. YUMMY HERBS, FLOWERS ... Organic food and garden writer Jody Main will teach a class on "Salad Gardening with Herbs and Edible Flowers" on Saturday, March 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Main will offer advice on soil preparation, planting and harvesting, plus tastes of lettuces, spinach, carrots, beets, fennel and more from her garden. Cost is $31 plus a $7 materials fee. REPLACING THAT LAWN? ... Acterra is sponsoring a hands-on Lawn Replacement Workshop on Saturday, March 5, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Foothills Park Interpretive Center, 3300 Page Mill Road, Palo Alto. The workshop will deal with replacing lawns with native plants, with emphasis on cost-effective, do-it-yourself techniques. Cost is $35; participants will receive $25 off a native-plant order. BEGIN WITH BRUNCH? ... Cindy Roberts will teach a class called "Begin the Day with Brunch" on Thursday, March 10, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, Room 103, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. Menu to master includes Sour Cream Coffee Cake, Crystalized Ginger Pumpkin Muffins, Breakfast Sausage Pudding, Garlic Shrimp in Won Ton Cups and Mushroom Puff Pastry Delights.
