Muralist transforms Palo Alto bathroom into rolling hills, redwood forest

by Robin Migdol

Painting with broad, bright strokes, muralist Erin Tajime Castelan is transforming a plain wall into a scene straight out of the rolling, tree-dotted Palo Alto hills. Where there was just a moment ago a blank space, there is now a majestic oak tree, its wavy branches reaching several feet in every direction and growing as Castelan dips her brush in her paints again and again.

I was so glad to see the article on Erin's mural painting! She is a local treasure, and more people should know about her. My husband and I love her work, and hope to one day have her do the entire back wall of our house. I am having such trouble keeping a garden going - it's a difficult setting - so we thought it would be fun to have Erin paint in all our favorite flowers below and around the windows. That way I can have my favorites in any season, and refresh my eyes with things that won't actually grow here.

I love her work! Thanks for printing this article.
