ART IN THE GARDEN ... Gamble Garden will continue its 25th anniversary celebration year with an exhibition and sale of plein air paintings, "Art in the Garden," this weekend. A reception for artists will be held on Friday, July 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20; reservations required. A free exhibit will be held Saturday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Gamble Garden, 1451 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Twenty-one selected artists will paint in the garden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an exhibit and sale continuing until 5 p.m. Refreshments will be for sale, or bring your own picnic. SOLAR COOKING ... Don Larson, assistant manager at Common Ground, will teach a class on "Solar Cooking" on Saturday, July 17, from noon to 2 p.m. at 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. His class will include hands-on demonstrations using the "Global Sun Oven" and "Solar Cookit." Cost is $31. FABRIC HAUL ... Anyone interested in picking up some free fabric can access the FabMo distribution on Friday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new FabMo Creativity Center, 2423 Old Middlefield Way, Mountain View. Appointments are required; send e-mail requests to gather.fabrix@me.com. Fabrics are restocked throughout the distribution. FOR CONNOISSEURS ... Menlo Park's annual Connoisseurs' Marketplace, featuring 250 artists and artisans showing original work, takes place Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Santa Cruz Avenue, between El Camino Real and Johnson Street. Goods range from handpainted tiles to recycled metal work, jewelry to leather goods. Presented by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, the festival includes live music, food and drink, plus an interactive kids' art area and fun zone. POND TOUR ... This year's Santa Clara Valley Koi & Water Garden Club pond tour, on Saturday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., takes place in Cupertino, Monte Sereno, Los Gatos and San Jose. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for teens, children under 12 free. Information: 408-227-4388 or www.sckoi.com.

DON'T BUZZ OFF ... Mimi Clarke will teach a class on "Planting a Bee Garden" on Tuesday, July 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. The class will focus on both California native and non-native plants, as well as a short field trip to the outskirts of Filoli to visit a bee garden. Cost is $45 for nonmembers, $35 for members.
