THE PLOTS THICKEN ... UC Master Gardener Bekah Du Bois will teach a free workshop on "Seasonal Vegetable Plots" on Saturday, April 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Gamble Garden Center, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Du Bois will talk about choosing the right veggies, growing vegetables on a single trellis or in containers, using raised beds, improving soil, water, sunlight, pests and diseases and companion planting. PRACTICE GRAFTING TECHNIQUES ... James Kern, a landscape contractor, Foothill College teacher and member of the California Rare Fruit Growers Association, will teach a class on "Grafting" on Saturday, April 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Educational Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Several kinds of grafting wood, or scionwood, will be available to "build" your own fruit tree. Cost is $35. TREE WALK ... Arborist Barrie Coate will lead a free Gamble Garden Spring Bloom Walk on Saturday, April 10, 10 a.m. to noon. The walk starts at the Carriage House at 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Information: sharon@canopy.org or www.canopy.org.

ARRANGING ROSES ... Barbara Gordon will demonstrate how to make rose arrangements at the next meeting of the Peninsula Rose Society on Wednesday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. The group meets at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Ave., Redwood City. PLANT SALE ... The De Anza Chapter, American Rhododendron Society, will hold its annual Rhododendron Plant Sale on Saturday, April 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Main and State streets, Los Altos. Last year several hundred plants, including Maddenii series rhododendrons not available at most local nurseries, went early. Information: www.deanza-ars.com.

SPRING GARDEN MARKET ... Looking for the latest in tomatoes? UC Master Gardeners will hold its 16th annual Spring Garden Market on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at History San Jose, 1650 Senter Road, San Jose. Besides thousands of heirloom tomato and pepper plants, new this year are beans, melons and eggplants, plus herbs and flowers. Information: http://mastergardeners.org/sgm.

GREEN INTERIOR DESIGN ... Kirsten Flynn, who owns the design firm Sustainable Home, will teach a class on "Green Interior Design — the Nuts and Bolts" on Wednesdays, April 21 and 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, Room 306, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto.
