Palo Alto Weekly Photo Contest Winners
Today we recognize some of those who have succeeded in retaining these images and entering them in our annual Palo Alto Weekly Photo Contest.
In all, 98 photographers submitted 207 entries this year.
The contest is now in its sixth year. This year first, second and third place prizes were awarded in four categories: "People on the Peninsula," Peninsula Nature," "Creative Vision" and "Views From Beyond the Bay."
First place winners were awarded $250 cash and a $100 gift certificate from PhotoTime. Second place winners received $150 cash and a $100 gift certificate from Keeble & Shuchat. Third place winners received $100 cash and a $100 gift voucher from the Art and Design Department at UCSC Extension.
The photographs were judged by four distinguished local photographers.
The newspaper reproduction process cannot do justice to the winning photographs. But we did our best to present them in such a way that readers can appreciate the work.
And we encourage you to take a look at them in their original form. The winning photos, as well as 10 other prints selected for exhibition, will be on display through June 15 in the Queene Amirian Meeting Room at the Palo Alto Cultural Center, 1313 Newell Road at Embarcadero Road. An opening reception for the photographers was held May 27. The Cultural Center galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday. Call 329-2366 for more information.
