"Richard Serra, Torqued Ellipses"
By Stan Zychlinsky

Stan Zychlinsky has been practicing photography for more than 60 years. Yet, despite having taken thousands of pictures over six decades, he humbly considers himself an "advanced amateur."

Zychlinsky took his winning photograph during a trip to the Dia museum in Beacon, New York.

"The building was projecting against the sculpture," he said. "It made a beautiful image."

The vacation included a surprise party organized by Zychlinsky's two children to celebrate his 80th birthday.

He is currently working on compiling his photographs for a Power Point presentation to share his lifetime of work with his family. Many of his favorite photographs were taken while traveling to distant countries, such as Bolivia, Tunisia and Morocco.

Zychlinsky was born in Poland and raised in Mexico. He and his wife, Fanny, moved to Palo Alto from Mexico three years ago.
