Palo Alto Weekly Photo Contest Winners: Eye witness

Palo Alto Weekly's 15th annual photo contest proves the eye is mightier than the pen

Countless words are written each and every year on the Peninsula - many in the paper you hold in your very hands. Yet, as clichéd as it sounds, even the most artfully crafted sentence can pale before a well-rendered photograph.

The winners of this year's photo contest definitely have the ability to find, and capture, images that evoke the heart of what makes this area - and its surrounding environs - such a memorable place to experience.

This year, 189 entrants submitted a total of 338 photos - which presented quite a challenge for our three judges. Fortunately, our panel was more than up to the task and were captivated by the range and creativity of the submissions.

Our four judges were: Norbert von der Groeben, the Weekly's chief photographer; Dave Hibbard, a fine art photographer; Joe Quever, a commercial photographer; and Brigitte Carnochan, a fine art and documentary style photographer.

Our sponsors include Photo Express, University Art, Jungle Digital, and Palo Alto Art Center.

The photos displayed in this issue will be on view from May 31 to June 14 at the Queene Amirian Meeting Room in the Palo Alto Art Center.
