"Jabeen-9/11 Muslims React"
By Michael Winokur
About Michael Winokur
Michael Winokur graduated with a journalism degree from the University
of Missouri and has been working as a Bay Area photographer for
the past 10 years.
A Philadelphia native, he applies his visual skills to sprucing
up advertising campaigns, and freelancing his photography to various
companies and agencies.
"As a creative professional," said Winokur, "you
always look for outlets. This was my way of answering back to
the impact of the terrorist attacks on September eleventh."
He means the spate of anti-Muslim hysteria and slurs that ran
across the country in the weeks after 9/11. "It concerned
everybody (emotionally)," he said.
Jabeen, the young woman in the photograph, is Muslim and a "native New Yorker, was in New York at the time of the events, and now lives in Palo Alto."
