Eddie Young Jr.

East Palo Alto, California

Eddie Young Jr. was better known as Ed Jr. or “Unch.” A native of Vicksburg Mississippi, he departed this life on July 5, 2017, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to be with the Lord. He was the first child of nine, born January 25, 1928, to the union of Eddie Fritz Young Sr. and Marie Harris Young of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

During his life’s journey, he was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, the late Vie Young. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Later in life he moved to Palo Alto and joined Abundant Life Church in Oakland, where he served until he was no longer able to attend. He also attended Vicksburg Family Life Cathedral, his church away from home where we would make zucchini bread muffins and five-flavor cake for the Saints at Family Life Cathedral on every trip home.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. Stationed at Fort Benning Georgia, he received an honorable discharge from the army on February 7, 1947. His life’s journey continued as he was employed with the Stanford University Medical Center, East Palo Alto, for 40 years. After retirement, he continued to make his home in East Palo Alto. In the past months he had resided in Indianapolis, Indiana, until his passing.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Fritz Young Sr. and Marie Harris Young; wife, Vie Young; one daughter, Daisy Young Palmer; two sisters, Erma Bell Young Dectrice and Beatrice Young; three brothers, Frank Young, Leon Young and George G. Young.
