Alvin Platt of Palo Alto, California, passed away peacefully at home, with loved ones at his side on the 17th of June, 2021. In recent years, though affected by Parkinson’s Disease he found joy in life and in caring for all of us.
Al was born March 3, 1935 in Chicago to Nettie & Raymond Platt (both from Ukraine). He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Barbara (Schiller).
Alvin will also be missed by five children and other relatives located throughout the US.
He earned a Master of Arts Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago in 1960.
Al’s entire work life was devoted to community service.
He was a dedicated educator and strategist for many community based agencies and institutions among them the
Chicago Public School System; North Shore Congregation Israel, Glencoe, IL; Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, CA; Jewish Community Federation, South Peninsula Region, Palo Alto, CA; Mid-Peninsula Jewish Community Day School (Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School), Palo Alto, CA; Centre for Living with Dying (Bill Wilson Center), Santa Clara, CA and the Palo Alto Humane Society.
Al loved to sing, compose romantic sonnets, and write stories and plays.
Family, friends and all who knew him will remember his loving generosity and wisdom.
