San Jose police this week arrested 10 San Jose residents in connection with commercial burglaries in more than a dozen Bay Area cities, including Palo Alto and Mountain View, since January.

Six suspects taken into custody on Thursday in San Jose and Sunnyvale.

The six were the first to be arrested as part of the crew that allegedly carried out burglaries in San Jose, Cupertino, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Santa Cruz, Burlingame, Los Altos, Morgan Hill, Walnut Creek, Fremont, Pleasanton, Oakland and Dublin, according to police.

The crew focused on bike shops, construction sites and school districts, police said.

The six were booked into Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of multiple felony charges, including commercial burglary.

By Friday, police had arrested another four suspects in the burglaries.

Police served multiple search warrants at a storage locker in Sunnyvale, at three recreational vehicles in San Jose, and another in the 1600 block of Willowgate Drive.

Police said officers recovered firearms, stolen driver’s licenses, narcotics, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, stolen credit cards and stolen property.

  1. I’ll venture they are all out on bail already. Please correct me if I am wrong. That information is rarely given even to the victims, let alone the general public.

^^^ This depends on a number of factors (i.e. previous record, bail amount, nature of the crime etc.).

A bail of $60,000.00 requires a 5% posting by the bondsman ($3,000.00). Bail listed as $40,000.00 or less can usually be waived with an ‘on recognizance’ release depending on past criminal record of arrest.

DUIs are generally posted as $40K or less and minor infractions are typically listed at $10,000.00 to $40,000.00.

I am speaking from experience as I was once booked for GTA which typically has a bail set at $60,000.00 to $75,000.00 depending on one’s past record & replacement cost of the car.

Better to steal a clunker Toyota than a Porsche…just saying.

County jail sucks…lousy food, periodic lockdowns & gang affiliations are regularly enforced by the inmates.

Breakfast @ 4:30AM – questionable chorizo slop, biscuit, dollop of cream of wheat + 1/3 container of milk.

Lunch @11:30AM – 4 slices of bread, 4 slices of bologna, small bag of peanuts, apple or orange + a Kool-Aid packet.

    Dinner @ 4:30PM – nondescript casserole + some bread, fruit & Kool-Aid packet.

Toilets/crappers & showers are separated by sheets. No bottled water & one must drink from bathroom tap.

80-120 accommodated in bunkbeds & guards treat inmates like scum of the earth.

Not a pleasant place (Elmwood/Milpitas) but probably better than some county jail in the Deep South where there is a complete absence of class & humanity.

Best to avoid county jail at all costs. Time moves slowly & it is incredibly boring. Minorities bond & there is protection. The mentally ill, homosexuals & child molesters are pre-screened & separated from the general jail population.

Lousy library & medical treatment facility. No coffee or smoking.

A one night stay is bad enough. To be here 3-6 months would be unbearable.

Santa Clara County jail has gone ‘retro’ in that the orange jumpsuits have been replaced by black/white striped ‘scrubs’…a Cool Hand Luke Vibe.

Currently on the streets but will probably be back someday. It’s a lifestyle for some & the key is to keep the crime low level…even though state prison food is better.

  3. Would locking up more homeless individuals in Palo Alto on vagrancy charges alleviate the homeless situation in our city?

The incarcerated would get three meals a day + a bed & roof over their heads & opportunity for regular showers. Plus there is TV & a library.

  4. I would like to understand the recidivism of such burglars. Do they go to jail for 3/6/12 months and then start their criminal activity all over again? I recall one such person saying, yes, because that’s the only thing he knew how to do.

  5. Wow, check out all the stolen driver’s licenses. I wonder if any of those are counterfeit. Between stolen and fake IDs, you never know what someone might doing under your identity.
